Hair Alopecia

-The loss of your crown can be particularly difficult for women. But there are ways to deal.

-Loss of your hair as a woman can affect your confidence badly, especially if you are young or in a period of weakness in your life.

-Jackie McIlope, a spokeswoman for alopecia in the UK and a nurse at Edinburgh's Edinburgh Hospital, says society considers hair an important part of your appearance.

"There is a social characteristic associated with baldness for women," she says, "hair loss can affect your appetite and how you perceive yourself.

"Some women wonder if their partner will still love her," she said. "Other women have become socially isolated and abandoned activities like swimming and going to the gym because they can not afford to use common changing rooms for fear of losing their hair".

-Hair loss known as alopecia is common. For example, it is estimated that about 50% of women over the age of 65 suffer from the type of baldness in females - the most common type of hair loss that is believed to be hereditary.

Types of hair loss:

- There are many different types of hair loss. It can take the form of light hair or include full hair loss. It can be gradual or sudden, as it can affect the elderly and young people.
- The hair loss can be genetic or caused by extreme tension, medical condition or treatment.
- Hair loss is a known side effect of chemotherapy, and about 50% of women lose more hair than normal after childbearing.

Hair loss treatments:

- Jackie McIlope, who lost all her hair, says she can help tackle the physiological aspects of hair loss. Try to know all you can about hair loss and treatment options available to you.
- The proven treatment for female pattern baldness is the hair lotion that contains minoxidil.
- Most women notice improvements after use, including slowing or stopping the entire baldness, and hair becomes thicker. Even 25% of women felt the return of hair growth while using it.

Ways to deal with hair loss:

Treatment of the psychological effects of hair loss is also important. If you lose your hair temporarily, life will be easier if you can accept what happened and learn to live with your changing appearance.

Join the support group: There are groups across the country where you can meet and integrate with others with alopecia.

Contact the Internet: If you prefer to connect to the Internet to talk to others.

Talk about it: Discuss your hair loss with your friends, family and loved ones, preferably at first. They know how you feel about it and what kind of support you need. If your hair loss affects your relationship with your partner, it may help you go for treatment or a counselor.

Coverage: Look for hiding and covering your hair fall with things like wigs, hair ties, scarves and makeup. Continue until you find the product and style that suits you best.

Jackie says: "You might prefer not to cover him at all" Whatever the best for you.

Be patient: Many women have temporary hair loss. It is said that the return of growth is unpredictable. It can take years. Remember that your new hair can be any color and texture.
